Implementing the succession of a business is a long-term process, which involves many perspectives. Taxation is one of them, and there are in fact a number of special provisions about business succession in the Finnish regulatory system.
Tax regulations include provisions on the tax exemption of the profit of sale, tax rebates on gift duties, and the valuation of company assets. Business successions including international, cross-border activities and farm successions are a chapter of their own.
Taxation is, however, only one aspect of successions. To be conducted successfully, the individual circumstances of the parties involved in the succession must be considered case by case. For example financing arrangements must be measured to secure a successful completion of the arrangement in the long term.
